On the Eternal Life, the New Birth and the Baptism with the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the source of eternal life.

Eternal life refers to the life given to the spirit part of man. It is to be differentiated from the soul and body of man.

And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
1 John 5:11 KJV

The spirit of Jesus received this eternal life when the Spirit descended upon Him like a dove when He came up out of the water.
From then on "this life is in his Son".

And John bare record, saying,
I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me,
Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
John 1:32‭-‬33 KJV

~~~
When we die, our soul and body will be dead and will await in the graves for the Day of the Lord where we will be resurrected and given a new body;
just as Christ was in the grave, dead, buried and resurrected on the third day.
Jesus saith unto her,
Thy brother shall rise again.
Martha saith unto him,
I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
John 11:23‭-‬24 KJV
He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
Acts 2:31 KJV
~~~

However, our spirits being eternal life cannot die but will be together with Christ in the Kingdom of Heaven and "the way ye know".

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
John 14:2‭-‬4 KJV

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
1 Thessalonians 4:14 KJV

~~~
Jesus has the power to give us this eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16 KJV
These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said,
Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
John 17:1‭-‬3 KJV
~~~

While walking in the flesh on earth, He is limited physically to give this eternal life to us.
Nevertheless He did gave to His believers and disciples and even the malefactor who believed in Him.

Verily, verily, I say unto you,
He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
John 5:24 KJV

And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying,
If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
But the other answering rebuked him, saying,
Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
And he said unto Jesus,
Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
And Jesus said unto him,
Verily I say unto thee,
To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Luke 23:39‭-‬43 KJV

After His resurrection from the dead and before His ascension in His new body, being less limited physically but still limited to His physical Presence, He appeared to some of the disciples.

As a foretaste of the promise of the Father and to prepare them,
He baptised this small group of the disciples with the Holy Spirit and gave to them power,
having already given them the eternal life which is being Born Again of their spirit, when they had believed.

Then said Jesus to them again,
Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
And when he had said this,
he breathed on them,
and saith unto them,

Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
John 20:21‭-‬23 KJV

~~~
Nevertheless I tell you the truth;
It is expedient for you that I go away:
for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
John 16:7 KJV
Now, Christ has to ascend back to Heaven and glorified, in order to send the Holy Spirit to us, who will in place of Christ,
give to us eternal life or the New Birth to everyone who believed in Him,
and the Baptism with the Holy Spirit and power to everyone who would receive Him in faith.
Jesus saith unto him,
Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed:
blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
John 20:29 KJV
~~~

It is to carry out what Jesus while being limited physically on earth could not be physically present to everyone who believed in Him.

And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 1:4‭-‬5‭, ‬8 KJV

~~~
The promise of the Father fulfilled.
It is even for you and I to receive today.
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 2:1‭-‬4 KJV
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Hebrews 13:8 KJV
