The Bible Way to Receive the Holy Spirit

The Bible Way to Receive the Holy Spirit

By Kenneth E Hagin

Ministering To Others

Receiving the Holy Spirit is entirely a matter of faith. I have several suggestions of things you can do to help a person who wants to receive.

1.
First, help that person see that God already gave the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit has been in this world ever since.
Help that individual know that it is up to him (or her) to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
He is not to beg God to fill him with the Holy Spirit.
All begging is unbelief. Unbelief begs.
Faith shouts.

2.
Second, lead that person to see that anyone who is saved is ready to receive the Holy Spirit:
ACTS 2:38
38 Then Peter said unto them,
Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
We have incorporated a lot of manmade traditions into our Full Gospel theology.
People think they have to do certain things or somehow clean up their life before receiving the Holy Spirit.
If we could clean up our lives ourselves, what would we need with the blood of Jesus Christ?
I'm blood-washed—blood-bought. If you're saved, you're clean, too.

3.
Third, it is scriptural to tell the person to expect to receive the Holy Spirit when hands are laid on him.

4.
Fourth, tell the person what to expect. People get every idea imaginable otherwise.
Tell that person he is to expect the Spirit to move on his vocal chords and put supernatural words on his lips.
The Holy Spirit gives the utterance, but man does the speaking.
Acts 2:4 says,
"And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them uterance" (or prompted them to speak).
Similar Scriptures are Acts 10:46,
"For they heard them speak with tongues....";
First Corinthians 14:18, where Paul said, "I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all"; and
First Corinthians 14:2, "he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries."
Many people say, "I'm afraid I'm going to get it in the flesh."
You can't get it any other way! It is men and women in the flesh worshipping God in the Spirit.
God promised in Joel 2:28,
"And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all FLESH...."

5.
Fifth, tell the candidate to throw away all fears he got from foolish teachers that he might receive something false.
Help him see that he will not receive a substitute for the Holy Spirit.
LUKE 11:11-13
11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
13 If ye then being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

6.
Sixth, encourage the person to open his mouth wide—this can be an act of faith—breathe in, and tell God,
"I am receiving the Holy Spirit right now by faith."
Absolutely insist that the person not speak a single word in his natural language.
Encourage him to relax and fearlessly, boldly, lift his voice and make those supernatural sounds that want to come, working his tongue and lips as he would if he were speaking English.
Tell him to expect that the Holy Spirit will give him words—that his tongue will seem to want to say something. This is so in every case.

The Holy Spirit gives the utterance—the person must do the talking. The supernatural part is what is being said; it is not who is talking.

When you can see that the Spirit is moving on his lips and tongue, tell him to speak any sounds it seems easy to speak, regardless of what they are.
That's faith. He is lifting his voice and trusting God for guidance. Tell him to go right on speaking, praising God with those supernatural words until a free, clear language comes and he has the inner assurance that he has received.

7.
Seventh, don't crowd around persons who come seeking the infilling of the Spirit.
Don't give them confusing instructions.
Those present should pray in the Spirit if they pray out loud;
otherwise, they should pray quietly in their natural language.

These seven steps are the steps I have used to get people filled with the Holy Spirit since 1938 without tarrying, without waiting—and almost without exception.

Receiving On Your Own

Baptism with the Holy Ghost

(Proclaim and pray aloud)

In the Name of Jesus Christ,

I proclaim the Kingdom of God is come.

Father,

I ask for Thy Presence to fill this room.

I ask for Thy Glory to fill this place.

Praise God!

Praise the Name of the Lord!

Hallelujah!

Glory to God Most High!

I proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord!

(Read aloud)

Luke 3:16-17 KJV

John answered, saying unto them all,

I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose:

he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

[17] Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

Acts 1:4-5,8 KJV

And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

[5] For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

[8] But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Acts 2:1-4 KJV

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

[2] And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

[3] And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

[4] And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:14-18 KJV

But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

[15] For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

[16] But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

[17] And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

[18] And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

Acts 2:38-39 KJV

Then Peter said unto them,

Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,

and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

[39] For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

(Pray aloud)

Father

I ask for the gift of the Holy Ghost in the Name of Jesus right now!

Lord Jesus,

Baptise me with the Holy Ghost now!

I absolutely surrender myself to you Lord Jesus.

I believe and I receive the Holy Spirit!

(Read aloud)

Acts 2:4 says,

"And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them uterance" (or prompted them to speak).

Similar Scriptures are Acts 10:46,

"For they heard them speak with tongues....";

First Corinthians 14:18, where Paul said, "I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all";

and

First Corinthians 14:2, "he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries."

(Silent reading for info)

(Many people say, "I'm afraid I'm going to get it in the flesh."

You can't get it any other way! It is men and women in the flesh worshipping God in the Spirit.

God promised in Joel 2:28,

"And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all FLESH....")

(Silent reading to prepare yourself)

(Now,

1. Close your eyes,

2. Expect the Spirit to move your vocal chords and put supernatural words on your lips.

3. The Holy Spirit gives you the utterance, but you do the actual speaking through moving your tongues and BOLDLY speaking out the first unknown word.

The Holy Spirit will continue the rest of your utterance as you surrender your tongue to the Spirit.)

(Instructions TO DO)

Now,

1) Take courage

2) Move your tongues and BOLDLY

speak out the first "nonsensical"  word

3) Loudly continue the "nonsensical" words until linguistically it sounds with the fullness of an unknown language

4) Keep speaking in the unknown tongues LOUDLY (while thinking in your mind that you are praising and thanking God)

5) In the process, even if you break down in tears, freely release your emotions and after that, continue speaking in tongues.

Congratulations!

The Lord Jesus  has baptised you with the Holy Ghost and fire and you have received supernatural power.

You shall manifest several of the following 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit from now on in service as a royal priest for the Kingdom of God:

1 Corinthians 12:7-13 KJV

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

[8] For to one is given by the Spirit  the word of wisdom;

to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

[9] To another faith by the same Spirit;

to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

[10] To another the working of miracles;

to another prophecy;

to another discerning of spirits;

to another divers kinds of tongues;

to another the interpretation of tongues:

[11] But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

[12] For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body:

so also is Christ.

[13] For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body,

whether we be Jews or Gentiles,

whether we be bond or free;

and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
