A word of Wisdom: Come After Jesus

A word of Wisdom:

Come After Jesus

Matthew 16:24-27 KJV

Then said Jesus unto his disciples,

If any man will come after me,

let him deny himself,

and take up his cross,

and follow me.

[25] For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

[26] For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

[27] For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

Many believers claim to be Christians but they never have any intention to come after Jesus.

All we are concerned with is to stay saved to go into heaven when we pass on in this life while enjoying the riches and pleasures of this world.

Our hope is not in "Christ in you, the hope of glory".

Our hope is not in the coming of the Lord Jesus.

Our hope is in the Rapture to avoid the sufferings and persecutions which is to come.

We are not willing nor prepared to suffer for Christ but are more interested in our own comfort in this world than working for the Kingdom of God.

Our hope is not in the perfect, holy, just, righteous world that is to come,

but is in this present fallen world.

Our hope is not to reign together with King Jesus in the world to come,

but to change the present fallen world to suit our lifestyles.

We are more willing to save our life than lose our life for Jesus' sake.

Alas! how we have err!

How do we come after Jesus then, you ask?

The instruction is plainly given in the beginning of the Scripture text by Jesus,

If any man will come after me,

1) let him deny himself,

2) and take up his cross,

3) and follow me.

1) Deny Yourself

Have you ever actually and intentionally "deny yourself" at all?

If not, repent and do it right now,

and be determined and steadfast to keep denying yourself for Jesus Christ daily, moment by moment.

Galatians 5:16-17 KJV

Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

[17] For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh:

and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

2) Take Up Your Cross,

Have you ever actually and intentionally "take up your cross" before?

If not, repent and do it right now, crucify your flesh, the old man, to the cross daily,

Romans 6:6-8 KJV

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

[7] For he that is dead is freed from sin.

[8] Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

3) Follow Jesus

After "deny yourself" and "take up your cross",

Have you been actually following Jesus;

Observing whatsoever He has commanded you, and

Following after Jesus in the same Way, Truth and Life, all things concerning what Jesus did and said?

Matthew 11:28-30 KJV

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

[29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

[30] For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
