What is finished?

A word of Wisdom
On What is finished?

John 19:30 KJV
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar,
He said,
It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Jesus upon giving up the ghost said "it is finished", but what exactly is finished?

We know that when Adam sinned after being deceived by the serpent, the dominion: the legal right, the authority over the earth, the kingdom that God gave onto man was willingly handled over to Satan.
Man was dethroned and is no longer the prince of the very kingdom that God created for Man.
Satan is now the prince of this world that God had created for Man.

Let us go back to Jesus. What is the purpose that the Father sent Him to accomplish on earth?

John 3:16-17 KJV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
[17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

The purpose is that the world through Jesus might be saved.

How so the world to be saved?
Have you ever wondered why the Scripture says "the workd" instead of "the people' or "Man"?

Jesus has told us the answer very plainly.

Mark 1:14-15 KJV
Now after that John was put in prison,
Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
[15] And saying,
The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand:
repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Jesus has come to proclaim the glad tidings that the Kingdom of God is at hand.
In other words the Kingdom of God is coming to the world soon and to receive this "world", the people need to repent of their sins, in which John Baptist has "make straight the way of the Lord" for this, and to believe in this good news of the coming of the Kingdom of God.

Matthew 11:12 KJV
And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

The Kingdom of God, the world that once belonged to the dominion of Man has been under the oppression and affliction of Satan until Jesus who has come to save the world.

Matthew 10:34 KJV
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

Jesus has proclaimed plainly to us the reason the Spirit of God was given Him to proclaim the coming of the Kingdom of God and what it means to be in the Kingdom of God.
It is the sword to war against Satan who has taken the Kingdom by force.

[Annotated words below are mine for clarity.]

Luke 4:18-19 KJV
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me [Jesus], BECAUSE he [the Father] hath anointed me [Jesus} to preach the gospel [of the Kingdom of God] to the poor;

[What is the Kingdom of God like?]
he [the Father] hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted,
to preach deliverance to the captives [of Satan],
and recovering of sight to the blind [afflicted by Satan],
to set at liberty them that are bruised [oppressed by Satan],
[19] To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
[The time is fulfilled]

Matthew 12:28 KJV
But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

By casting the devils out of the Kingdom of God [into the abyss], who have inflicted violence upon the Kingdom, can then be possible that the Kingdom of God be returned back to us.

What is finished?

The night before the crucifixion, this is what Jesus said:

Luke 22:18 KJV
For I say unto you,
I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

During the crucifixion event, before they crucify Him:

Mark 15:23 KJV
And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.

After they crucify Him,

John 19:28-30 KJV
After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
[29] Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
[30] When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said,
It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Do you see it?
The purpose that the Father sent Jesus to restore the dominion of the Kingdom of God was accomplished after the crucifixion.
"I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come."
Jesus rejected the wine before crucifixion but actually drank the vinegar which is also the fruit of the vine after the crucifixion, saying:
"It is finished".
That which signifies that the Kingdom of God has finally come!

Before, Jesus only proclaimed that the Kingdom of God "is at hand" or "is come nigh".
Now, the Kingdom of God is come, it is finished!

The dominion of the Kingdom of God is returned back to whosoever believes in Jesus Christ and what He has accomplished that which the Father has sent Him to do.

John 14:6 KJV
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life to the Kingdom of God.

However, this does not mean that the Kingdom of God has been restored to its fullness.
Far from it. The Enemy, the devil and his minions, are still roaming freely in the world, inflicting violence and oppression in the world.
The good news is that Christ did not leave us alone and powerless but has given us the Holy Spirit to accomplish what He has started.

Acts 1:8 KJV
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

John 14:16-18 KJV
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
[17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
[18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

John 16:7-8 KJV
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
[8] And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

John 14:26-27 KJV
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
[27] Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Brethrens, our Lord Jesus Christ did not die for our sins so that you can go to church every weekend to sit comfortably on the pew, enjoying worship and sing songs, listen to nice sermons and do nothing for the Kingdom of God that He has suffered so much to return to us.
He died so that the dominion of the Kingdom of God be returned back to you who believe in Him.
Let us fulfill the good works and greater works He has commissioned us to battle against the kiingdom of darkness, of the war that Christ has already won, to cast every devil and forces of darkness that dared to come against us, into the pit of darkness, until the Day of Judgement comes.

John 16:33 KJV
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.
In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer;

I have overcome the world.
