A Devotion written for Students

Colossians 3:23 KJV
and whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
Topic:
Study hard to honor what is given to you

1) Does Colossians 3:23 relate to us in our academic studies?

Well, let's look at an earlier verse:
Colossians 3:20 KJV
Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

The scripture says we are to obey our parents in all things and studying hard is certainly in obeying our parents, who have provided the privilege of education given to us by the blessing of God.
This is well pleasing to the Lord and so is honouring what He has given us.

Now, when we obey the scripture to study hard to honour the education given to us,
we need to do it heartily and not grudgingly nor unwillingly.
We need to always keep ourselves in the presence of God and know that we are really doing as to the Lord and not onto our parents nor in pride onto men.

We see that it is written in the next verse, in this manner of studying hard, we are really serving the Lord Christ and shall receive the reward.

Colossians 3:24 KJV
Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

2) How do we study heartily as to the Lord?
Let's hear what the Word says in a few verses before:

Colossians 3:17 KJV
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.

Yes, it is in giving thanks heartily to God in the Name of Jesus!

Hence,
We could pray and give thanks heartily, setting our heart right first, in preparation before studies,
and
then pray and give thanks heartily onto Him again after our study sessions.
