Preaching in the intellectual wisdom of man
A word of Wisdom
On preaching in the intellectual wisdom of man
And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
1 Corinthians 2:1-5 KJV
We, the Body of Christ have increasingly given in to the widely prevalent intellectual preaching in the wisdom of man apart from the demonstration of the Spirit and of power in this generation.
How many preachers come in weakness, in fear and in much trembling whilst preaching to a congregation of any size?
Instead, what we have most often are charismatic men of high intellectual caliber, speaking and lecturing in full confidence and assurance in their own wisdom, even without realising so.
But, of course, if these men do not need to demonstrate the Spirit and in power their preaching of the word of God, little will they come in weakness, in fear and in much trembling.
Let us repent and discern the vanities of current perilous times and pray that we are not mislead by false preachers and teachers however subtle the excuse and difference may be.
Let us stay sober, in that, if any preaching or teaching does not come in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, there can be no washing of regeneration and no renewing of the Holy Spirit.
Let us hold fast our faith and strive to find our way back to the narrow way.
