Old Covenant and New Covenant Prophets

Old Covenant and New Covenant Prophets

In recent years, we have seen an increased in the number of Prophets giving us prophecies of end times and presently much on coronavirus.

While it may be the good intentions of these Prophets having the gift of prophecy to warn the church and the world, we do not realise that there is a big difference in the way the prophets function in the Old Testament times from the New Testament times which is presently.

In the OT, only specifically chosen individuals by God are anointed and filled with the Spirit and appointed as Prophets.
These Prophets are either authoritative leaders or held in high regards or even in contempt, depending on the king of their times.

Whereas in the NT the office of prophets is only a part of the functions (five fold ministries) of the Body and the gift of prophecy can be manifested in many of the Spirit-filled believers, as many as desired so.

Under the Old Covenant, the Spirit comes upon and speaks through the Prophet with much control over what is actually being spoken out.
The Prophet repeats verbatim what he heard from the Spirit.

Whereas, under the New Covenant, when a prophet, filled with the Holy Spirit, receives an impression of prophecy or a prophetic word, he/she has to interpret it according to the degree of the renewal of mind to the Word and convey the meaning in his/her own words.
A number of believers with the gift might also receive the same message at the same time.

In short, OT Prophets are of capital "P" and NT prophets are of small caps "p".

Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
Galatians 3:3 KJV
