The Sermon on the Mount (Matt 5 - 7)

A word of Knowledge
On the Sermon on the Mount (Matt 5 - 7)

In the whole Sermon on the Mount, the LORD is really teaching us these 3 major lessons on the Kingdom of God, namely:

1) Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:3 KJV

2) Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:10 KJV

3) That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:20 KJV

~~~
Here are the outline structures and guide for each lesson that will lead us into the Kingdom of Heaven:
1) Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:3 KJV
Continuing from Matthew 5:4 - 9, the LORD defined 6 types of those whom He considered are "poor in spirit" as well as why and how "theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven" in a precise and concise language.
The 6 types are
a) they that mourn,
b) the meek,
c) they which hunger and thirst after righteousness,
d) the merciful,
e) the pure in heart,
f) the peacemakers
This is of course an instruction for us to be as such and is certainly beneficial for us to meditate the deeper meaning of the reason He considered these as poor in spirit and why theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
2) Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:10 KJV
In Matthew 5:11 - 19, the LORD first defined what it means to be "persecuted for righteousness' sake" as well as how we should react towards such persecutions.
He then moved on to give us the reason that we will be persecuted that we are the salt of the earth and light of the world.
He encouraged us to,
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
even in the face of imminent persecutions, the consequence of following these commandments.
The following of these commandments will determine whether we will be called least or great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
3) That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:20 KJV
In this lesson, the LORD gave a full length elaboration on what He meant by "your righteous shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees" from Matthew 5:21 - 7:27 till the end of the sermon on the mount.
He literally compared and corrected each of the false teachings and ways of the scribes and Pharisees that the people heard or witnessed as it is to us today.
At the end of the sermon, He warned us the consequence of following these wrong teachings and ways as the scribes and Pharisees did, will result in us not being able to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 7:21 KJV
