A word of Knowledge: A Double Portion
A Double Portion
Deuteronomy 21:15-17 KJV
If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated:
[16] Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn:
[17] But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a DOUBLE PORTION of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.
This is the law of the inheritance of the firstborn, which is a double portion.
2 Kings 2:9-10 KJV
And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha,
Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee.
And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
[10] And he said,
Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
Elisha is aware of the law of the inheritance of the firstborn and hence asked Elijah for a double portion of his spirit according to the law.
John 20:19-23 KJV
Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them,
Peace be unto you.
[20] And when He had so said,
He shewed unto them His hands and His side.
Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
[21] Then said Jesus to them again,
Peace be unto you:
as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
[22] And when He had said this,
He breathed on them, and saith unto them,
Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
[23] Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
In the New Testament, the law of inheritance for the firstborn continues to be observed by Christ.
As the Father has sent Christ, even so has Christ sent the disciples.
As the Father has sent Elijah, even so has Elijah sent Elisha.
Just as Elisha is the spiritual firstborn of Elijah, so are the disciples the spiritual firstborns of Christ.
Just as Elisha saw Elijah when Elijah was taken from him into heaven and as a result Elisha received the double portion that he asked for,
So did the disciples who saw Christ appearing to them and believed after His resurrection, be given a double portion.
Therefore, the disciples who saw Christ and believed are entitled to a double portion of the spirit of Christ.
The spirit of Christ is Peace.
This is the reason He gave onto the disciples: "Peace be unto you" two times when He appeared to them in His glorified new body.
A double portion of Peace.
The spirit of Christ is also the Holy Spirit and power.
Acts 1:8 KJV
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
This is the reason He breathed on the disciples and gave them the gift of the Holy Spirit, the promise of the Father: "Receive ye the Holy Ghost".
The is the power He gave the disciples:
"Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained."
However, this is only one portion of the Holy Spirit and power.
The next installment of the double portion is given in the day of Pentecost mrntioned in Acts 2.
That is the reason the apostles appeared to be walking and manifesting more in the power of the Holy Spirit immediately after the day of Pentecost than the other disciples.
Now, this does not means that the latter disciples, including you and I, are not entitled to a double portion of the spirit of Christ as did the apostles, since we are also the firstborns of Christ since God perceived all persons equally as firstborn, sons of God.
Acts 10:34 KJV
Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
It simply means that they have been filled with the Holy Spirit twice, having the first filling much earlier than the other disciples.
Therefore, if you have received the baptism with the Holy Spirit once, you should desire to seek for more fillings of the Holy Spirit and power.
The examples of such disciples who have received the subsequent portion of the spirit of Christ after Pentecost are the seven men filled with the Holy Spirit to serve tables on behalf of the twelve apostles which are Stephen, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch.
Acts 6:2-3 KJV
Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said,
It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
[3] Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
Brethrens,
Have ye received the Baptism with the Holy Ghost since ye believed?
It is not the same experience as being born again in Spirit for you need to be a spiritual firstborn of Christ (born again in Spirit) first before you could receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and power.
John 3:3,5 KJV
Jesus answered and said unto him,
Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
[5] Jesus answered,
Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
What is the Kingdom of God then?
Romans 14:17 KJV
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
The Kingdom of God is righteousness, pesce and joy in the Holy Ghost.
In order to be able to have righteousness, pesce and joy in the Holy Ghost, you must first have had received the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Have ye received a double portion of the spirit of Christ yet?
