Smith Wigglesworth On the Holy Spirit: Questions and Answers about the Baptism

Smith Wigglesworth On the Holy Spirit Questions and Answers about the Baptism Q: Is the Holy Spirit a personality? A:Yes, He is. He is not an “it,” not an influence, but He is a presence, a power, a person, the third person of the Trinity. That is the reason why the Lord said, “When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). Q: If you do not receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, will you be lost? A: Certainly not. You are not saved by the Holy Spirit. You are saved by the Word of God and the blood of Jesus. Q: Is it as necessary to urge people to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit as it is to urge them to be saved? A: No, because the baptism of the Holy Spirit cannot come to anybody until he is saved. And a person could go to heaven without the baptism of the Holy Spirit—the thief on the cross did. You must understand that the most important thing today is getting people saved. But do not forget that after you are saved, you must seek so that

"Having Begun In The Spirit"

”Having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?” Now let us try to learn that this word to the Galatians teaches us—some very simple thoughts.  (1) It shows us how the beginning of the Christian life is receiving the Holy Spirit.  (2) It shows us what great danger there is of forgetting that we are to live by the Spirit, and not live after the flesh.  (3) It shows us what are the fruits and the proofs of our seeking perfection in the flesh.  (4) It suggests to us the way of deliverance from this state. - Andrew Murray, Absolute Surrender:  "Having Begun In The Spirit"

How To Be Filled With The Holy Spirit

*** A Message for this Shavuot and Pentecost, 11 Jun 2024 *** How To Be Filled With The Holy Spirit   by A.W. Tozer Almost all Christians want to be full of the Spirit. Only a few want to be filled with the Spirit. But how can a Christian know the fullness of the Spirit unless he has known the experience of being filled? It would, however, be useless to tell anyone how to be filled with the Spirit unless he first believes that he can be. No one can hope for something he is not convinced is the will of God for him and within the bounds of scriptual provision. Before the question 'How can I be filled?' has any validity the seeker after God must be sure that the experience of being filled is actually possible.  The man who is not sure can have no ground of expectation.  Where there is no expectation there can be no faith, and where there is no faith the inquiry is meaningless. The Doctrine of the Spirit as it relates to the believer has over the last half century [written in 1957]

A word of Wisdom: Effectual Prayer

A word of Wisdom: Effectual Prayer All things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. Matthew 21:22 KJV What things soever ye desire,  when ye pray,  believe that ye receive them,  and ye shall have them. Mark 11:24 KJV If you ask, you must believe, for God is only pleased when you believe. You have to be in the right condition for asking.  This is the condition:  Let him ask in faith, nothing wavering.  For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:6‭-‬8 KJV I want to impress upon you that if you ask multiple times for anything, just for the sake of asking, it shows you are an unbelieving person.  If you really believe, you will ask God and know that He has abundance for your every need.  If you really believe, you know absolutely that God hears your every prayer and He will answer it, every single

Deeper Purposes Of God

Deeper Purposes Of God By John G. Lake  I want to talk to you concerning some of the purposes of God. Among them is God's amazing purpose to baptize men in the Holy Spirit.  I think that even among the deepest thinking Christians in our day, little is understood of the real purpose of God in this wonderful experience. We say to one another that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is God coming into man, that it is God manifesting Himself in man, and other expressions of this type;  but it fails to convey to the mind anything like the great purpose of God in His coming into us. The baptism of the Holy Spirit has among its wonderful purposes the dwelling of God in us, the perfecting of His life in us through His Word in our spirits, through His power in our lives.  Speaking in other tongues is the peculiar manifestation of God accompanying the coming of God the Holy Spirit into the life.  This was the evidence when the Holy Spirit of God descended on the day of Pentecost at Jerusalem.  Th

Real Faith (heart) vs Mental Assent (head)

Real Faith (heart) vs Mental Assent (head) By Kenneth E Hagin  Hebrews 11:1 KJV Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. John Wesley said,  "The devil has given to the Church a substitute for faith which looks and sounds so much like faith some people can't tell the difference."  He called it "mental assent." Many people see what God's Word says and acknowledge that it is true—but it is only with their minds that they are agreeing.  And that will not get the job done.  It is heart faith that receives from God.  Notice what the Bible says, "For with the heart man believeth.... " (Rom. 10:10). Jesus said in Mark 11:23, ".. .whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart [this doesn't say a word about the head], but shall believe [that is, with the heart] that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoeve

A word of Wisdom: Faith stands in the Power of God

A word of Wisdom: Faith stands in the Power of God Romans 10:17 KJV Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 KJV And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:  [5] That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.  How many of our faith come by hearing the preaching of the Word in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, rather than by the eloquence of men? Honestly, the majority of the preaching done in churches every weekend are just simply according to how the world's educational institutes taught, that is, with enticing words of man's wisdom, nothing like how our Lord Jesus taught.  For, does your heart burn within (Luke 24) when you heard the Word preached to you by any of these men? Luke 24:32 KJV And they said one to another,  Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us th

The Power in the Holy Spirit

The Power in the Holy Spirit B y John G. Lake It would be uncharitable if we were to criticize a man of reason who knows nothing about the spiritual realm.  Christianity is not the product of human reasoning.  Christianity is a divine intervention.  Christians are those who have been born from above. They have been re-created.  This life of God that comes into their spirit nature dominates the reason so that they have "the mind of Christ" (1 Corinthians 2:16) to think God's thoughts and live in God's realm of miracles. Friends, when a Christian tries to live by reason, he is moving out of God's country into the enemy's land.  We belong in the miraculous or supernatural realm. Christ was a miracle.  Every Christian is a miracle. Every answer to prayer is a miracle.  Every divine illumination is a miracle.  The power of Christianity in the world is a miraculous power.  God, help us to realize that ours is a high and holy calling.
