A word of Wisdom: The Humility that Jesus Taught

A word of Wisdom:

The Humility that Jesus Taught

Luke 18:10-14 KJV

Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

[11] The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

[12] I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

[13] And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

[14] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other:

for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

The humility that the modern believer has come to understood is not the same humility that Jesus taught us.

Without spiritual discernment, they will appear to look alike.

But in reality the humility of modern believer follows much closer to that of the Pharisee and not that of the publican in the parable.

John 12:43 KJV

For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

Matthew 11:29 KJV

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me;

for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

The Pharisee sees himself as a servant-leader of God having been given the position to lead and guide others as their manner of serving.

He is outwardly meek and outwardly lowly in heart in appearance but inwardly he is self-righteous, prideful and high-minded, superior to others.

He thinks and acts to show to others he is always right according to his intellectual capabilities, skills and personal experiences.

The publican sees the Holy Spirit as the leader and himself as a servant of God and men, serving in meekness and lowliness in heart.

He serves God in all things with fear and rejoices with trembling.

He seeks not to speak or do anything out of his own will and mind but only whatsoever the Spirit says and shows him.

Matthew 23:8-12 KJV

But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

[9] And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

[10] Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.

[11] But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

[12] And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

The Pharisee is the Rabbi, the Master

and

The Publican is the servant.

Galatians 5:16,25 KJV

Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

[25] If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

The Pharisee is really walking in the flesh regardless of his denial.

The Publican is the result of walking in the Spirit.

John 16:13-14 KJV

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself;

but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

[14] He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Are you walking in the Spirit in humility at all times; speaking only what He told you and doing only what He showed you

OR

Are you walking in the flesh; in your own mind, in your own will, in the traditions of men, in the pleasing of men, in the acceptance of the world?

Are you walking in the humility that Jesus taught OR the humility according to the manner of the world?

John 15:5 KJV

I am the vine, ye are the branches:

He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit:

for without me ye can do nothing.

Are you observing whatsoever Christ has commanded you,

in which,

Humility is the first and foremost pre-requisite to be able to follow Him whole-heartedly?

Matthew 28:18-20 KJV

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying,

All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

[19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

[20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
