Sons and Joint-Heirs

Image
Sons and Joint-Heirs, February 1915 (Excerpts) By Smith Wigglesworth I want to speak about the eighth chapter of Romans, beginning with the eleventh verse. I used to have a hard heart, and God had to break and break and break me. I used to be critical of people who preached divine healing, and did certain things which I thought they should not do. Then God began to put me through a testing and to break me; I went down before God, and then the hardness was taken away and all bitterness. I believe God wants to get all the grit and hardness out of us. ...if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Romans 8:11 The power of God here is dealing with our “mortal bodies,” but I see the power of the Spirit today wants to quicken us both in spirit and body. ...If ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye THROUGH THE SPIRIT do mortify the deeds of the b

Absolute Surrender: Ye Are The Branches

Image
Absolute Surrender By Andrew Murray Ye Are The Branches   (Excerpts) The life of the branch is a life of close communion. What is the application to our life of this abiding communion?  What does it mean? It means close fellowship with Christ in secret prayer.  I am sure there are Christian who do long for the higher life, and who sometimes have a great blessing, and have at times found a great inflow of heavenly joy and a great outflow of heavenly gladness.  And yet after a time, it has passed away.  They have not understood that close, personal, actual communion with Christ is an absolute necessity for daily life.  Take time to be alone with Christ.  Nothing in Heaven or Earth can free you from the necessity for that, if you are to be happy and holy Christians.

On Divine Healing...

Image
On Divine Healing... Our faith itself is nothing but simply taking His free gift of grace. Thus come and claim His promise; and having done so, believe according to His Word that you have received it. ... Be careful not to begin to watch the result or look at the symptoms, or see if you stand.  You must ignore all symptoms, and see only Him there before you, almighty to sustain you and save you from falling. Be prepared for trials of faith.  Do not look always for the immediate removal of the symptoms.  Do not think of them. Simply ignore them and press forward, claiming the reality behind all symptoms.  Be the symptoms what they may, we must steadily believe that back of all symptoms God is working out His own great restoration. -- A.B. Simpson Before we have the evidence of our senses in regard to the matter, we accept the evidence of faith. Having faith in God is believing His word without looking at probabilities or possibilities, as humanly viewed; without regarding natural circum

Humility in the Disciples of Jesus

Humility By Andrew Murray Humility in the Disciples of Jesus (Excerpts) For three years the disciples had been in the training school of Jesus.  He had told them what the chief lesson was He wished to teach them:  "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me;  for I am meek and lowly in heart:  and ye shall find rest unto your souls"  (Matthew 11:29). Time after time He had spoken to them, to the Pharisees, to the multitude of humility as the only path to the glory of God.

Abide in Christ: Through the Holy Spirit

Image
Abide in Christ By Andrew Murray Through the Holy Spirit  "The anointing which ye have received of him, abideth in you; and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him." --I JOHN 2:27. How beautiful the thought of a life always abiding in Christ!  The longer we think of it, the more attractive it becomes.  And yet how often it is that the precious words, "Abide in me," are heard by the young disciple with a sigh!  It is as if he understands so little what they really mean, and can realize so little how this full enjoyment can be attained.  He longs for some one who could make it perfectly clear, and continually again remind him that the abiding is in very deed within his reach.  If such an one would but listen to the word we have from John this day, what hope and joy it would bring!  It gives us the divine assurance that we have the anointing of the Holy Spirit to teach us all things, also to teach us how to abide in Christ. Alas! someone answers,  this word d

A word of Wisdom: Preacher, is the Lord with you?

A word of Wisdom: Preacher, is the Lord with you?  Mark 16:20 KJV And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 KJV And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:  [5] That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Should you ever want to listen to the sermons and speech of any preachers or pastors if you have never seen or known that they have demonstrated that the Lord is with them? Do you want to hear the words of man out of their own intellect and education or do you want to hear from God? 2 Timothy 3:5-7 KJV Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.  [6] For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,  [7] Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowl
